The young people who participated in the programme then go on and develop their own business ideas. When Farhad first heard about The Agency at 17, he was training to be a professional boxer. But when his best friend was arrested and later sentenced to 20 years, his desire for change hit different. “He had his whole life ahead of him,” Farhad shares. “That could’ve been me.” That moment became the seed for Potential MCR — a mentoring project that takes the entrepreneurial skills many young people already have and guides them toward legitimate, sustainable futures. What makes Potential MCR unique isn’t just the idea, it’s the delivery. It’s young people learning from someone who has similar experiences. “I don’t build their skills—I redirect them,” Farhad explains. “These are kids who’ve been labelled, excluded, pushed out. But when I walk into the room, they actually listen. They know I mean it.” Farhad’s six-week entrepreneurship programme has already run multiple cohorts, reaching young people at risk of exclusion, violence, or criminalisation. With support from business mentors, some of whom usually charge hundreds per hour but volunteer their time here, participants gain real-world insight and a qualification they can carry forward.
